Langkawi - The Andaman Resort - Family Friendly Holiday

Langkawi is a family-friendly destination, featuring wild jungles and pristine white sand, located off the coast of Malaysian Borneo. It offers just the right balance of adventure and relaxation, set against the most idyllic backdrop.

We stayed at The Andaman Resort, which is cosily tucked away between a 10 million year old rainforest and fringing coral reef at the tranquil Datai Bay. The Datai Bay is rated as one of National Geographic's top 10 beaches in the world, and I can see why..... The beach has the softest clean white sand, clear blue waters and breath-taking views.

Our Executive Pool Suite was clean, comfortable and massive. A king bed on one side, and separated by double doors was a large sofa bed that managed to fit 2 of my boys.

BUT the biggest bonus of the room has to be our own private PLUNGE POOL!

The boys never got tired of jumping and playing in the pool.

When it rained one afternoon, we simply pulled down the shutters and plunged into the pool, whilst waiting for the rain to subside.

It was with much difficulty to peel them away from the room each time. Thankfully, The Andaman has a whole host of activities to keep everyone happy.

One activity NOT to be missed is snorkelling in the coral nursery. The Coral Nursery is home to many beautiful species of corals, fish, sea cucumbers, crabs and many more. A life jacket is fitted and then you are guided to float around the pool accompanied with a running commentary by the guides.

The Andaman also provides complementary nature walk every morning and evening, which is interesting and informative. Walking around the grounds under the guidance of their experienced naturalists, we learnt about the sights and sounds of birds, monkeys, squirrels and a myriad of other delightful animals and medicinal plants.

When you have had your fill of exploring the resort's grounds, take a plunge in the lagoon-style swimming pool. Located alongside the beach, it is surrounded by soaring rainforest trees, making you feel like one with nature. There are monitor lizards roaming around freely near the pool to make the experience more exciting too!

The waterslide is without a doubt a hit with the kids, who went down countless times.

Plenty of cabanas to lounge around in the shade and have snacks and drinks.

The little one also spent some time in the Young Explorers' Club, which is situated beside The Restaurant so that the rest of us could have a leisurely long breakfast in peace.

But the highlight of this trip has to be the BEACH!

Endless clean white sand, clear blue waters...  What makes it even more perfect is that this beach is PRIVATE and for the EXCLUSIVE USE of hotel guests only.

It is well maintained by the resort and not crowded at all. We felt like we were in our private little island!

There are plenty of little animals, shells, corals and other interesting objects on the beach to keep the boys amused for hours and hours.

The kids absolutely loved spotting and catching the many species of crabs found on the beach.

Interesting trails left by the crabs

The resort also offers various water sports, such as kayaking, stand up paddle boards, surfing and others. And also the complementary use of snorkelling gear, which my kids loved, to explore the amazing coral reefs in the waters.

Ample beach chairs provided by the resort - perfect for all day lounging.

The Datai Bay area is located quite far off from all the other touristic places. Although this makes it very private and peaceful, it also means dining options may pose a problem for some. Thankfully, the resort has a few restaurants on offer.

The Tepian Laut restaurant serving local and international cuisine, is located right by the beach so that you can dine while soaking up the views of the Andaman Sea.

The Beach Bar is perfect for light bites and chilling out while the kids run around on the beach.

The Jala Restaurant has amazing reviews online, serving fantastic fresh seafood in a beautiful setting and a price tag to match!

However, my kids refused to try any of the restaurants and chose to order room service for all the 3 nights we were there.

We simply could not tear the kids away from the comforts of our room! And what can I say...  It definitely was a luxury to be able to dip in our private pool, wait for the food to be wheeled in to the room, have a bite and then dive right back into the pool again.

The room service definitely did not disappoint. The food and drinks served were fantastic - warm, fresh, delicious, and all served within 30 minutes of ordering.

The in-room dining menu is the same as what they serve in The Restaurant - which is the main restaurant in the resort - so we were assured that the quality would be just as great.

The only times we ate out of the room were for the daily breakfast buffet served at The Restaurant. The spread was amazing - there is something for everyone, from noodles and various hot food, breads and pastries, to salads and fresh coconut juice. My favourite was the Indian corner with roti prata and delicious warm curries. Definitely recommended.

Breakfast with a view

The Andaman Resort truly embodies the phrase "Escape from it all". Everything from the resort staff to the facilities on offer was perfect. All we wanted to do was laze around the resort, while away our time doing absolutely nothing. And how often do we get to do just that nowadays...!?

But we did venture out of the resort ONCE, and that was to explore the Langkawi Cable Car - the number one attraction in Langkawi and also to satisfy my little one's fascination with all things cable car.
