Kuala Lumpur with Kids - Batu Caves - Twin Towers
The second day of our trip was spent outdoors and exploring what Kuala Lumpur has to offer.
First up was the Batu Caves, an iconic and popular tourist attraction, about 25 minutes away from KL city centre.
It is a limestone hill, rising to almost 100m above ground, comprising of a labyrinth of caves. These caves feature ornate Hindu temples and shrines, with beautiful statues and paintings. At the front of the cave is an impressively large statue of Murugan, a Hindu deity.
To get into the main temple cave, we have to climb a steep flight of almost 300 steps. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
More steps to the top.
Beautiful view just as nature intended!
There are lots of monkeys frolicking around freely. They generally don't bother you. Just do not try to touch them - I saw a tourist trying to pat one of them and it turned around and growled aggressively.
We particularly enjoyed the Dark Caves. The 45-minute guided tour to enter is RM25 per person.
It is a 2km network of relatively untouched caverns, with rock formations and wonderful creatures (like creepy insects, giant spiders and bats) found nowhere else. Most parts of this cave were completely dark, which made the tour that much more exciting. No flash allowed so we couldn't take any clear photos. But it was definitely informative and interesting.
At the bottom of the hill, the little one enjoyed running after the pigeons.
Come evening time, we headed to KL City Centre via the Bukit Bintang Pedestrian Walkway.
This walkway is a fully air-conditioned bridge, connecting Pavilion Mall to KLCC, that took us 20 minutes on foot. There are several entrance and exit points along the bridge, conveniently manned by security guards, making it safe to walk to and from Bukit Bintang and KLCC, even at night.
We exited at Suria KLCC Mall, which is located at the foot of the Petronas Twin Towers. It is an upmarket shopping centre offering high-end local and international brands.
It is a chic-looking mall, good place to window shop. But we were NOT there to shop. We were there for....
The TWIN TOWERS!
No visit to Kuala Lumpur would be complete without a visit to the Twin Towers and taking countless selfies.
Which we duly fulfilled.
Then we headed to the lake just in front of the Mall, for the amazing Lake Symphony Water Fountain show. This musical and light water fountain show plays every 30 minutes and lasts about 5 minutes in the evenings. Simply mesmerizing!
Food-wise, we noticed Suria KLCC has less exciting options compared to Pavilion Mall. The restaurants are slightly more expensive but also less crowded, which make getting seats easier - a big bonus with 3 hungry kids in tow.
We had a lovely meal at Bumbu Desa - quite an authentic Indonesian cuisine, which I have been craving for. And the chillies are to die for!
It was a great meal to end a wonderful day in KL!
