Taipei Xinyi district - Shopping at Eslite Bookstore and Mitsukoshi Dept Store

Xinyi district is a prime shopping area in Taipei, with numerous entertainment, shopping, and dining complexes.

It is also home to the famous Taipei landmark - Taipei 101. With 101 stories, it is one of the tallest buildings in the world. Visitors can visit the 89th floor observatory deck which offers spectacular views of Taipei. A multi-level shopping mall adjoining the tower houses hundreds of stores, restaurants and clubs.

I particularly enjoyed Xinyi's chic and upscale vibe, with its extensive collection of unique food and cafes. There are many large malls at Xinyi, but the more noteworthy are the Eslite Bookstore and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store.

Eslite Bookstore is amazing.

Don't be fooled by its name - it calls itself a bookstore but it has so much more than just books!

Firstly, it is huge. There are 7 floors up plus 2 basement floors. Secondly, it sells everything from books to clothes to home furnishing to foodstuff and many more. And most importantly, it is incredibly exciting with every floor laid out beautifully. Every corner you turn something new and interesting will surely catch your eye.

Beautifully arranged flowers greet you as you enter the store.

I particularly loved the home furnishing sections within the store.

A few floors were dedicated to books. Large variety of Chinese, Japanese, English books, comics and magazines.

The kids' section is massive! What I love about Eslite is that there are ample seating areas where we can browse and read freely, although some books are shrink wrapped.

My kids would love this corner! All sorts of DIY projects and there are friendly staff on hand to guide you along.

Huge selection of pretty stationeries and writing materials.

I was very intrigued by this wooden music boxes - made by Wonderful Life.

Each wooden piece is exquisitely well made. Simply choose the parts, choose the music and make your own unique creations.

Amazing little things! They are very popular amongst the Taiwanese youths.

I spent an embarrassingly long time in this corner. Just look at how pretty everything is!

Love love love. If only luggage space is not an issue! 😁

There is a vast selection of clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelleries and skin care products from both local and international brands. Nice to look at but they are quite pricey!

Do not miss the food section located at the basement and on the upper floors. There is tea, coffee, Taiwanese snacks, jams, bottled sauces, dried goods and all sorts of health food.

I was absolutely thrilled to find these vinegar! They are much cheaper in Taiwan so I stocked up on them. 😁

There is a large food court on the basement too. But I didn't try any of them. There is simply just too much food in Taipei!

Located just beside the food section on Basement 2 is the tax refund counter. If you spend above NT$2000 in a single day, you are entitled to a tax refund of 5% less admin fees. You can get the refund immediately on the spot! Don't forget to bring your passport along.

Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store is a huge Japanese department store, where you can find international and boutique brand clothes, accessories, cosmetics, jewellery, Taiwanese food, and handcrafted gifts.

As I entered the store, there was a line of people queueing up to take pictures with this giant Choco bear.

This is where Choco House is located. It is a combination of a coffee shop and souvenir shop. There are lots of adorable Choco-themed products, such as T-shirts, mugs, key rings, smartphone ornaments and covers, pillows, badges, and bottles.

In the pink Choco House café, Choco fans are served with mini hot cakes and various deserts, chocolate drinks and milk tea.

What I liked most about Mitsukoshi store was their food selection. There are lots of bakeries and chic cafes, and the food court at the basement is quite impressive too.

There was a massive queue for this Japanese pastry. I have not seen this in Singapore yet! But when I came around 1 hour later, they were all sold out :(

The basement supermarket is well stocked too - worth checking out for Japanese and Taiwanese teas, coffees, and snacks.

I spent an enjoyable part of the day at Xinyi - chilling out, shopping and admiring all the pretty little things.
