Toad in The Hole recipe
The last time I made this for one of our family gatherings, it was lapped up within minutes by the boys and their cousins. Kids just love food that are easy to eat and non messy.
I'm sure the name of the dish played a part to pique their interests too!
I've decided to make a bigger batch of this for our Christmas dinner this year. This dish is best served straight from the oven as it becomes flat when cooled. I'm sure it doesn't affect the taste much but it just looks (and therefore tastes) better all fluffed up.
Toad in the Hole
Ingredients:
1 pack (400g) pork sausages - cut into chunks
1 cup plain flour
1 cup milk
2 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 200℃
- Put sausages in a baking dish, coat them with oil and bake in the oven for 10 minutes until browned
- In the meantime, mix the flour, eggs and milk, and season with salt and pepper, until well combined
- After 10 minutes, take out the baking dish carefully from the oven. Make sure the oil is still sizzling hot, then quickly pour the batter mixture all around the sausages
- Put back in the oven and bake for a further 25-30 minutes until risen and golden.
